Fishing News on Hatteras Island

Surrounded by water and in close proximity to the Gulf Stream, Hatteras Island emanates a life rich in fish culture. Some islanders fish for a living, some islanders fish for fun, some islanders sell fish in their restaurants and some islanders prepare bountiful fish-rich meals for their families. One thing is for sure, the various Hatteras Island fisheries have an impact on those who are blessed to call this place their home and we love sharing them with our friends and neighbors. While the docks are always abuzz with fishing action, sharing with you is exactly what we aim to do. Rough conditions had boats working for their catches the past two days.

Inshore we saw mainly Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish.

Offshore and wreck fishing brought in Amberjacks, Sand Tilefish, Triggerfish, Beeliners, and a few Mahi.

Slow fishing overall but still some nice catches coming in.

Inshore boats had good catches of Spanish Mackerel in the sound, plus some Bluefish, and a couple of Drum.

Fishing slowed down again today with a lot of boats scrapping together their catches. We saw a mix of inshore, offshore, and bottom fish brought back to the docks:

The weather finally laid down again and we had a beautiful day on the water.

Offshore boats brought in nice catches of Mahi and huge Wahoo! Plus some Amberjack and Barracuda. 

Inshore we saw good catches of Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish, a few Drum, and reports of Cobia.

Fishing was still on the slow side overall but boats still brought in some fish to the docks. Offshore we had a sailfish release, several Amberjack, a few Mahi, some Blackfin Tuna, and a Yellowfin.

Inshore boats had some nice Cobia, Bluefish, a few Drum, and Spanish Mackerel.

Another rough day on the water but boats managed to scrap in some mixed catches. Offshore boats brought in a few Mahi, a Wahoo or two, and some bottom fish, mostly Grouper, Tilefish, and Triggerfish. Plus a Blue Marlin release.

Offshore charters were canceled today due to high winds. We did have some inshore boats go out and bring a few big Cobia back to the docks despite the weather!

Not much to report for offshore boats today. With the winds picking up, most offshore charters were canceled.

Inshore boats had Drum, Speckled Trout, and some nice Cobia.

We had a beautiful day and some nice catches coming in. Inshore, we saw Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish, a 7lb Speckled Trout on a private boat, and several reports of Pompano on the beach
